I am so often asked what inspires me and I feel truly blessed to be able to find inspiration all around me.. it is not so much certain things but the magic that surrounds them that I find truly exciting and inspiring.
A couple of months ago I stumbled across an enchanting blog “My Marrakesh” by the gorgeous Maryam and found her amazing tales of her new life in Marrakesh enthralling. Her stunning imagery and breathtaking photographs left me in awe. The interiors that Maryam posted got me thinking and before I new it my Marrakesh story for Summer was born.
For years I’ve been dreaming of owning a vintage Morroccan wedding blanket. These hand-loomed wool blankets and crafted in small villages throughout Morrocco. Prospective brides and relatives sew by hand each sequin. The blankets are said to have talismanic powers and protect the user from the evil eye.
It was not long after the whirlwind success of Rosemount Fashion week that I contacted Maryam to let her know that her blog had such an impact on me. Soon after we got talking and I showed her my Summer 2010 range that she loved. We decided to do a swap… and what a swap it was…
A couple of weeks later The Ultimate was delivered to my front door… an exquisite variety… my very own sparkling vintage Moroccan wedding blanket. And here it is.. for you all to see draped over my bed in all its shimmering vintage glory.
I really do feel like this blanket has something extra special about it.. an unexplainable power… it is this extra special thing that inspires me. I hope to translate that beauty into my designs for you all to wear and enjoy.
